By bizarre coincidence, our first musician contact, Pepe Abellán of the Okónkolo Percussion Trio lives only 1km away. We will get a full performance and footage of the Trio on the way back north with Teo in september, but we want to record a demonstration of fundamental cajón rhythms for loop material. He explains the concepts behind Buleria, Tango flamenco, and also jams out some funky, 5/4, 7/8, and North African Tanguillo beats. Exciting and informative.
Next stop Granada, where we roam the streets in search of the best Tapas and sample some street musicians playing in the jardines overlooking the Alhambra.
Culturelinx is a project from Musica Sin Fronteras, a non-profit organisation run by a collective of independent media professionals in the area of education, music, audio, film, arts and event management, web technology and design.
We are visiting cross-culture musicians with mobile recording equipment and cameras, and filming musical collaborations and interviews, exploring concepts of identity and connections between cultures. With the musicians inspired by previous recordings, layer by layer, we are creating a body of music, videos and lyrics in a mash-up exploration of 21st century life.
This blog shows the MAKING OF , the process of gathering the audio and visual material on the road. A comprehensive website, including musician profiles, sound samples for download and teasers from the documentary and album is coming soon...
